Martin Garrix brings DJ visuals to fans around the globe with Disguise X Series

Martin Garrix on X2 and X3 - Disguise Designer X Series

At just 17, Martin Garrix made history by becoming the youngest DJ to headline Ultra Music Festival after the release of his 2014 breakout hit, Animals. Fast forward to today, and Garrix is one of the most famous DJs in the world, with multi-platinum-selling music and festival performances scheduled everywhere from Thailand to Mexico.

To deliver the visuals for all these global performances, Garrix and his team enlisted the help of the creative experts at PHNTM and the technical solutions team at All of it Now. Together, they used the portable Disguise X2 and X3, alongside Disguise’s Designer software to ensure Garrix’s DJ visuals could be delivered across a variety of different venues throughout the summer of 2026, all while being transported to new countries on a moment’s notice.

The challenge

The biggest challenge the team faced with Martin Garrix’s DJ visuals was managing the variety of stage setups involved. Some of the venues that Garrix performed in were massive festival stages, with LED strips, a grid, a back wall, and more, so that thousands of fans could watch him DJ in a huge outdoor space. Others were more intimate indoor venues, like clubs with smaller screens.

“We could be going from a festival in Mexico to a club in Ibiza in the same week, so our job was to make sure the show visuals could scale quickly and easily,” says Vishal Sharma, Designer and Programmer at All of it Now. “We wanted audiences to be immersed in impressive visuals, no matter what venue they were in.”

The solution

At first, the All of it Now and PHNTM teams used X2 and Designer, then later updated the X2 to an X3 for larger festival shows that required additional outputs. Together, the X2, X3 and Designer allowed the team to transport all the hardware required for Garrix’s show visuals in a suitcase. This meant that no matter where they travelled or what size venue they were in, they could program the show using the same project file, allowing everyone involved to rely on a single source of truth.

“The X2 and X3 helped speed things up, saving us a lot of time as we didn’t have to reinvent the wheel whenever we got to a crazy new stage,” Sharma. “Instead of spending hours reformatting the show file for every venue, we could just use Designer’s Switch stage to swap between different pre-configured physical layouts. We could then easily preview how our visuals would look in 3D before physically going to the venue. All we needed to do was update our feeds, and we could switch between festival and club environments to take the same visual aesthetic the full way through the tour.”

As well as being flexible enough to work smoothly across large and small venues, the X2 and X3 were both also powerful enough to ensure that the team didn’t have to compromise on their vision for the extra portability. “There was a heavy video component to the show: at one point, we wanted to create a 3D grid made up of live video footage,” Sharma continues. “By using the X2 and X3’s multiple video outputs, we had the power needed to display both live video and 3D rendered graphics in parallel at a high resolution.”

The power of X2 and X3 also made it possible for the team to experiment with complex effects, such as programming the show from the lighting desk’s cue stack using Designer Sockpuppet’s DMX controls.

The results

After successfully executing several summer festivals, the All of it Now and PHNTM teams are programming more than 70 songs for Garrix’s upcoming tour in India in Spring 2027.

We’re definitely planning to continue using the X Series. Right out of the gate, it just worked and we completely trust the redundancy built within the X2 and X3. It’s going to really change the way the industry thinks about video and how it should be operated and executed.
