Meet Marcel Jungbauer

From large-scale international installations to global live broadcasts watched by millions, Marcel Jungbauer thrives in the moments where live events are pushed to their limits.

As Project Lead and Media Server Specialist at Pink Production Services, Marcel operates at the intersection of creative ambition and technical precision – designing, commissioning, and running systems that simply cannot fail. In an industry where every second of a show counts, his work ensures that when the lights go up and the countdown hits zero, everything performs exactly as intended.

We sat down with Marcel to hear the story behind his rapid progression within the industry, and visit some of his favourite recent projects.

A lifelong fascination with spectacle

Long before stepping into control rooms and server racks, Marcel was captivated by the emotional power of live events.

“I was always fascinated by how technology can shape emotions in a live environment,” he explains. “Seeing how visuals, timing, and technology come together to create unique moments for large audiences made me realise early on that this was what I wanted to do.”

That fascination became a career when Marcel began his professional journey at one of Germany’s leading live events companies. There, he completed his formal training and gained something just as valuable: a holistic understanding of how large-scale events truly work.

“I learned far more than just the technical side,” he says. “Working across many different formats taught me about workflows, team dynamics, and how pressure really feels when the show is about to start.”

Where creativity meets absolute reliability

Today, Marcel’s role at Pink Production Services sits squarely between concept and execution. He translates creative ideas into real-world systems, and then makes sure those systems perform under demanding, unpredictable conditions.

“No two days are the same,” he explains. “Some days I’m planning systems, coordinating with clients, creative teams and technical partners, or preparing content workflows. Other days I’m on site commissioning systems, testing redundancy, solving problems under intense time pressure, and making sure everything stays stable once the show goes live.”

That variety extends across the types of projects he works on. From brand activations to international conferences and broadcast-level productions, each format brings its own priorities.

“A brand activation might be all about flexibility and fast iteration,” Marcel says. “A global conference or broadcast, on the other hand, demands stability, redundancy, and absolute reliability. I enjoy projects where technical complexity and creative ambition really meet.”

Discovering Disguise

For Marcel, trust is the foundation of every successful project: trust in the planning, the people, and the technology itself. That’s why Disguise has become a critical part of his toolkit.

Although he had known about Disguise for years, it was during the pandemic – when Pink Production Services began focusing more heavily on virtual production and xR – that everything changed.

“As soon as we started engaging with Disguise, both as a product and the people behind it, we quickly decided to invest,” he says. “That marked the beginning of a much closer relationship.”

Memorable projects and proud moments

The first was a long-term installation at Expo 2025 Osaka, which welcomed over 25 million visitors over six months. Marcel was responsible for installing and commissioning 11 Disguise GX 3s and eight EX 3+, ensuring stable, continuous operation throughout the entire run. The GX 3 units were used for projection mapping in the pavilion’s courtyard, as well as several smaller projections, while the EX 3+ units were used for various LED screens inside the pavilion and additional projection mapping within the building.

Despite the long duration of the project, the content was updated weekly for special events and changing exhibitions, so the team had to remain flexible. “The challenge there was longevity,” he explains. “Everything had to be rock-solid. Not just for opening day, but for months after.” Our client and the team behind it specifically asked for Disguise, so it was clear to everyone involved that Disguise is the system we rely on.

The second project couldn’t have been more different: a fast-paced global live broadcast in Washington, D.C., produced with a small team under intense time pressure. Due to the nature of the project, we’re unable to share further details, but with constant last-minute changes and millions watching worldwide, flexibility and confidence in the system were essential.

“Both projects highlighted how Disguise supports very different workflows at the highest level,” Marcel says. “That’s what makes it such a powerful tool.”

Looking back and looking ahead

Asked about his proudest moments, Marcel doesn’t point to awards or scale, but to a feeling.

“When I think about the opening moments of a recent global broadcast, I still get a very special feeling,” he says. “That moment when the work is actually done, we press play, and the show starts with millions watching.”

Marcel is already looking toward this year with several large-scale international projects on the horizon. Though for now, the details remain under wraps.

“My dream project wouldn’t have to be the biggest show ever,” he says. “It would be a great mix of creative and technical challenges, with a big team made up of the people and friends I’ve met along the way.”

And when he’s not working, one live event continues to inspire him from afar: the Eurovision Song Contest. “It’s always really exciting to watch,” he says. “Hopefully one day I’ll get to experience it in person.”

Advice for the next generation

For those just starting out in the live events industry, Marcel’s advice is grounded in experience: “Learn the fundamentals. Prepare thoroughly. Stay calm when things go wrong because they eventually will. And most importantly, stay in touch with all the people you meet along the way.”
