Overview
The new Volkswagen Teramont Pro marks a significant step forward for smart vehicles, with next-generation smart technology including an adaptive IQ.Pilot intelligent driving system. For the launch of their impressive new range, Volkswagen called on digital event specialists HYDMAT and their ongoing partnership with Disguise to deliver a memorable and tech-led introduction to the Teramont Pro.
After a brief preparation period fueled by Disguise’s pre-visualisation tools and streamlined workflow, HYDMAT utilised Disguise’s VX 4+ media servers and Designer software to bring their ambitious vision to life.
The challenge
For a high-profile event such as the Teramont Pro launch, trusted equipment is a vital part of the process. The HYDMAT team would have just two months to plan, create and deliver the project, with one week only to integrate the tech with the space. They would need to ensure that, despite the short turnaround of the project, the end result would not only look perfect but also reliably deliver ultra-high-definition content throughout the event.
“Our goal was to bring creative ideas to life and deliver a technologically advanced and deeply engaging car launch event,” says Gibson Wu, the company’s General Manager. “Whether online or onsite, we needed to ensure that the product’s features were comprehensively showcased, offering audiences a fresh and interactive experience.”
As well as displaying ultra-high definition video onto a sprawling 108 sqm (18 x 6 m) screen, the team needed to create custom video content that would be projected onto three boulder-like shapes, requiring pixel-perfect projection mapping to ensure the visuals met Volkswagen’s high standards when viewed from any angle.
The solution
Gibson Wu chose Disguise as the partner he wanted to face this challenge with. “Disguise’s powerful Designer software allows for early visual simulation,” he says, “this helped the technical team stay aligned with the client from the start. With real-time editing capabilities, content could be fine-tuned on the fly to meet evolving project needs.”
Disguise’s pre-previsuation tools also enabled Gibson’s team to complete the majority of their work before they even set foot in the event space. Precision modelling could be employed to ensure flawless 3D output that was stable and accurate, eliminating the risk of last-minute issues with the visual effects or interactive projection content. The team were able to coordinate hardware deployment and other logistics during this same period, undertaking technical testing of the system so that their time in the space itself could be used more productively.
Once onsite, the team were able to spend the final week ensuring that everything was ready to go. They were able to integrate four of Disguise’s VX 4+ media servers with the onsite tech to enable seamless synchronisation of their content. The simplicity of the process allowed the team two and a half days for their final rehearsal and adjustment phase. The flexibility of Disguise’s workflow meant that any last-minute changes could be rendered in real-time, making decisions quicker and easier. The feedback from the Disguise workflow could also be seen in real-time, ensuring all potential issues were identified and resolved before the big day.
Results
The launch was a resounding success; the dramatic digital backdrop offered a perfect complement to Volkswagen’s new Teramont Pro range of vehicles.
“The support from the Disguise team was both timely and professional,” Gibson says.”They responded quickly and provided effective solutions, enabling us to execute the project more efficiently. This experience has strengthened our confidence in working with Disguise even further, and we’re looking forward to many more opportunities to create extraordinary events together soon.”
“The front-end equipment shines in its own right,” he confirms. “It's the rock-solid reliability of the back-end systems that truly holds everything together.”
