Tiger Hu lights up stages across China, thanks to Disguise GX 3

Releasing hit records for more than two decades, Tiger Hu is a veteran of Chinese pop music, but in 2026 his popularity surged again after winning the singing competition “Singer”. Although his original “Fireworks” tour ran in 2024, the tour was redesigned in 2025-2026 to “Fireworks: In An Instant”, focusing on the concept of the fleeting nature of time and its connection to memory, identity and personal growth.

The revamped show required intensive, immersive, real-time graphics that could be replicated at multiple venues on the tour. Shanghai Huichen Stage Lighting Equipment Company were tasked with bringing this vision to life, trusting Disguise’s Designer technology, GX 3 media servers, and Disguise’s in-house customer support teams every step of the way.

The Challenge

The show was structured into distinct musical chapters to trace a moving journey from youth to adulthood. To enhance the storytelling and the emotional arc of the show, each chapter needed to be brought to life on stage through kinetic stage elements, dynamic visuals, LED content, lighting, and lasers.

However, this ambition would come at a cost, as it needed intensive processing power to handle the large volume of high-resolution, dynamic visual content, which included real-time graphical elements. The show also needed to be easily replicated across multiple different venue conditions and stage configurations.

Ma Gu, Project Manager of Shanghai Huichen Stage Lighting Equipment Company, explains: “One of the biggest technical challenges of the production was balancing a highly ambitious creative vision with the practical demands of a touring show. The team wanted to create a cinematic and immersive experience, while maintaining a consistent look and feel throughout the tour.”

For each new venue, the team had roughly one week of preparation from load-in and set-up through to the end of the performance. With such time constraints, they needed a tool that could help them previsualise the show ahead of time at each venue and to minimise any last-minute adjustments on site.

Ma Gu continues: “Many of the visual movements were closely tied to the movement of the kinetic stage, lighting cues, and musical timing. This required precise cueing and playback control to ensure that every element could come together at exactly the right moment.”

The Solution

After analysing the tour’s overall production requirements, the team chose Disguise’s GX 3 media servers to power the show. Employing the two servers in a primary/back-up configuration, the servers provided reliable playback for the tour’s heavy visual content, bringing together pre-rendered media, real-time graphics, and IMAG sources together in a unified workflow.

Thanks to the GX 3’s processing power, the team could ensure smooth playback and reliable redundancy. Ma Gu says: “The performance and stability of the GX 3s made a strong impression on us and meant we had great confidence in the system throughout the live shows.”

Disguise’s Designer software also played an integral role in the team’s workflow. The team were able to pre-visualise the show and carry out system checks using Designer’s features such as Stage Visualiser, Timeline, Layers, and Mapping. This meant they could identify potential issues early and reduce any adjustments needed to be made on site.

Ma Gu continues: “Disguise provides more than just media server hardware – it offers a complete workflow that spans content programming, stage visualisation, and live playback. This combination of software and hardware is particularly valuable for a touring production.”

Using Disguise also came with an additional bonus: The in-house technical support teams, who were available to support Ma Gu and his team whenever they needed it.

He says: “Having a reliable support network has been equally as important as a complete technical ecosystem. The technical support teams were an important part of the experience, providing timely assistance whenever issues arose on site.”

The Results

Playing in major arenas and sold-out shows across Chinese cities, Disguise technology enabled each concert on Tiger Hu’s tour to be more than just a stage show, becoming instead an immersive experience.

The GX 3 media servers provided the power and consistency that allowed audiences to be fully immersed in the show’s visuals, while the team knew they could rely on Disguise software to keep up with their vision.

Our overall experience of using Disguise has been very positive. Disguise performed well across all three areas we needed: System stability, operational efficiency, and the ability to adapt to different on-site conditions.
